Shipping an order can be equal parts exciting and stressful, which is why we’re always working on new ways to remove any guesswork. Today, we’re sharing two of them: unique processing times for variations and order earnings. Let’s take a closer look at how these updates can make your shipping strategy work better for your customers—and you.
1. More accurate delivery times
Set unique processing times for variations
If your listing variations take different lengths of time to make or prepare, you can now set unique processing times for each one so buyers see the most accurate delivery dates. To support this new feature, we’re rolling out “processing profiles.” Just like a shipping profile lets you assign shipping details to multiple listings, a processing profile lets you set and reuse a processing time for multiple listings.
What's new
We’ve been working behind the scenes on improvements based on your feedback:
- Instant updates: Ship-by dates refresh right away when you update a processing profile.
- Simpler tooling: Only your active listings are shown, so you can focus on what matters most.
- Third-party compatibility: You can now easily manage your variation-specific processing times directly through your favorite apps.
Next steps
We’ve created processing profiles based on your current listing details, so review them to make sure everything looks right. If you want to assign a unique processing profile to a listing variation, head to your Listings to make that update.
Still have questions about reviewing and updating your processing profiles? Check out the Help Center for step-by-step instructions.
Keep in mind
- Sometimes Etsy uses your shipping history to provide buyers with the most accurate estimated delivery dates, so these may differ slightly from what’s accounted for in your listed processing times.
- Now that processing times have moved to processing profiles, shipping profiles only contain shipping information like carrier, origin zip code, and shipping prices.
- We know shipping can be challenging, especially with changing global trade policies. For tips on managing these complexities, visit this Seller Handbook article.
Example
Sunny sells handmade jewelry on Etsy. Her best-selling charm bracelet comes in two variations, sterling silver and 14k gold, and has a processing time of 3-4 days. The sterling silver variation is ready to ship, but the gold version is made to order, putting its processing time closer to 7-10 days.
When someone has ordered a gold bracelet in the past, Sunny has scrambled to meet the listing’s 3-4 day processing time. With variation-level processing times, Sunny can add the correct processing time to both the silver and gold versions of her charm bracelet, helping to manage her buyers’ expectations—and giving her a little bit of room to relax.
See it in action
You can now use processing profiles to add a custom processing time to each of your variations (available in the Etsy Seller app and on Etsy.com).
You can also add processing times to your variations across different listings in bulk. This feature is only available on Etsy.com (not in the Etsy Seller app).
2. A clearer picture of your order earnings
The new order earnings breakdown is designed to give you a better understanding of how much you make on every order. That way, you can feel more confident pricing—and shipping—your items as competitively as possible.
- Check out order earnings to see how much you’re making every time you make a sale. This post-purchase summary breaks down each order so you know how much you’ve made once Etsy fees and some other costs are deducted, including shipping cost, marketing cost, transaction fees, payment processing fees, taxes paid by the buyer, and Etsy funded coupon credits.
- Use it alongside the earnings calculator to fine-tune your pricing strategy and make any necessary changes to your item and shipping prices.
Our new post-purchase summary makes it easy to see how much you've earned from a sale after some costs and fees have been deducted (available in the Etsy Seller app and on Etsy.com).
A couple reminders
- Listings with US domestic shipping prices under $6 are prioritized in search. To view your current shipping prices and edit your shipping prices in bulk, visit the Etsy search visibility dashboard.
- The order earnings tool shares how much you earn from an order after some costs, but not all (like time and labor). For more information on how to deduct those costs from your order earnings, check out this article, and for a more detailed view of what’s included in the order earnings tool, head to Etsy’s Help Center.
Finally, we understand that some aspects of shipping, including the evolving global trade policies, are outside of a seller's control and can present unique challenges.
