For years, ecommerce has been defined by scale, speed and price. And in our search for convenience, we’ve robbed ourselves of the meaningful interactions that define the human experience.

But a shift is underway. Generations raised online are pushing back on the culture they inherited. After years of algorithm-driven trends, shoppers are questioning whether convenience has come at the expense of individuality. Today, the majority of Gen Z says that taste has become flat and nearly one in three say social media has made shopping feel “mindless.” 1 What they’re looking for now is more meaning and connection.

We see it in the way people are showing up for one another. In the return of dinner parties and handwritten notes. In the growing desire to celebrate not just the big milestones, but the smaller, deeply personal moments too. Paying off student loans. Starting over after heartbreak. Finding yourself again. Celebrating a pet who feels like family. The moments that might not always come with a card aisle, but matter just as much. What we’ve started thinking about as the “ministones.”

As more of life becomes increasingly automated and impersonal, there’s never been a more important time to celebrate what makes us human. The wonderfully messy, emotional, imperfect moments that shape who we are and remind us we’re alive.

Today, we’re excited to introduce Etsy’s newest brand campaign, Celebrate Being Human, rooted in a simple idea: our most human moments deserve celebrating.

For the past two years, we’ve been telling the story of our sellers: who they are, what they make, and the uniquely human marketplace they’ve built. That remains the foundation of Etsy and what makes our marketplace special.

But this year, we’re expanding the frame. Because on the other side of that story are the people who show up on Etsy to mark the moments in their lives that really matter.

Our new anthem spot visualizes that idea by counting out a human life through moments both big and small. The average person gets about 26,823 days on earth. 76 summers, 4 best dog friends, 6 best friends, 1,205 firsts.

Across those moments, Etsy appears not as the center of the story, but woven into it, from a custom keychain for a first apartment to a handmade gift marking a fresh start. These might seem like small moments, but often they are the kinds of memories people hold onto the longest.

And behind every one of them is a real Etsy seller helping someone celebrate, process, remember, express, or begin again. That human connection is what makes Etsy different.

Because in a world increasingly shaped by automation and sameness, Etsy is still rooted in something deeply human: real people making meaningful things for other real people.

“Celebrate Being Human” launches across TV, digital, social, creator content in the coming weeks, and will shape additional creative pulses throughout the summer, each one returning to the same truth: our most human moments should be celebrated with humans.
